After having my Scorpio for a couple of months now I decided to give the leather seats a treatment as they are looking a bit bedraggled & the leather isn't very soft.
I went to Halfords to buy some leather cream & was confronted by about five different products. After reading them all I opted for the 'Mer' cleaner/revitaliser. I have given it a couple of treatments now & although the leather looks cleaner & doesn't feel as slippery (like it's got furniture polish on it), it doesn't really feel alot softer.
Anyone know of another product or proven natural remedy that will soften it.
I remember reading somewhere that linseed oil & lemon is a good leather softener (must smell a bit though).

I notice you have the later facelift car like myself. The later cars had really hard leather compared to the earlier Granadas and early Scorpios. I have,'t seen a facelift car yet with nice soft seats like the early ones you find in the scrap yards.
I even thought of swapping the seats from an earlier car but mine has the side airbags so no go there!!
Just have to live with it I guess. Like the squeeking centre armrest where it rubs between the seats!

A fellow cabbie collegue has an S reg GhiaX with leather and it is the softest leather i've ever seen/felt.....but it's a pre-facelift with 50,000 miles. Not sure if he has the air bags though.
P.S. Baz...some vasaline (rubbed well in) will cure the squeaking arm rest.

If you can get the reg number of the S reg I can check the build date. Chances are it is a pre 1997 model. The 95/96 cars tended to have the soft leather. It all changed around mid to late 1997 when the facelifts were made. Almost as though they were cutting corners using cheaper leather
We have had a 1998 pre facelift with a build date of mid 1995 so it sat in a yard somewhere waiting to be bought!!

I have a new leather sofa & that is very soft. It was cheap compared to what else we looked at. The more expensive ones seemed to have harder leather. So is hard leather the good stuff & soft leather cheap, or vice-versa?

Mer...same as the car polish product...but the leather treatment version of it.

Thats the only answer - you just gotta keep feeding it. Mine was quite hard but after 4 cleans/feeds its starting to soften up
