Erratic clutch operation

I'm new to Scorpio - but what a great car! I've had it a couple of months nowand on Friday it developed the Easter blues when the clutch would not fully disengage - in fact barely disengage at all. I limped home but on a short test yesterday the clutch is working perfectly.
The resevoir is full. Is this consistent with air in the clutch hydraulics? or something completely different?

Is your car manual or Auto?
Also, this sounds like you might have a gearbox problem, not a clutch problem (but I am sure others will have a different opinion). I would check the gearbox oil and get a garage to take a look.

Sorry should have been more specific....its a manual Executive 16v 1995 salon. I've now found Ketil S thread from last year but he didn't seem to have the erratic aspect. Just off to check the travel adjustment screw under the pedal

I still have that problem sometimes, although not completely erratic. Changing the master clutch cylinder did help somewhat (although then my clutch wouldn't operate at all). Bleeding the system helped somewhat too, but hasn't removed the problem completely, although it has helped a little every time. Today I got around changing the oil in the MT75, a fairly easy job done in half an hour or so if you got access to ramps and an oil pump. That seemed to help somewhat also, but I still need to let the revs fall to around 3000 before I can think about changing gears.
I'll probably wait a week or two and then do the oil again, to remove any residue in the gearbox, and try to bleed the clutch some more.
Edit: I think I agree with drawlings, the problem is probably (mostly) in the gearbox itself. An oil change can't hurt and won't cost much in terms of time and money.

Thanks Kjetil, I had wondered how you got on. I have now twenty or so miles with no problems and, assuming it doesn't reappear, will follow your sugestion and change the gearbox oil and bleed the clutch next service.
I am wondering if it is something very silly . . . eg could the foot mat have pushed a small stone under the stop screw... I removed a piece of gravel from the footwell when checking it out initially.
If not it's the first self healing car I've come across!

There could be one more thing, i had a similar problem, hard gear change, also when engageing 1'st the car appeard to want to start on it's own with the clucth pedal fully pressed etc. It turned out to be the travel distance of the clutch pedal. It has an adjusting screw under it. In my case the travel of the pedal was not full, it was smaller with a few cm, aparently to small, but after adjusting there was a big difference.
