first off welcome to the site second. first off clean the MAF (like scorpio_man said) it's the bit where the multi plug goes in the air tubing from the air box to the engine. you'll need to remove the air box to get at the bit you need to clean (using somthing like carb cleaner) third. what colour is the auto box oil? if it's red it should be fine, brown means its over heated and possible costly damage has been caused

i cleaned the MAF and now it revs nicely to the redline and doesn“t missfire at all as it used to do... so one problem solved thanks to you guys. the gearbox is still acting oddly on motorway speeds.. gearbox works fine when you are accelerating 100% it changes gears like it should and works fine. But when you drive normally like steady 70 mph the engine is reving about 2600 or so... suddenly the gearbox kind of changes to neutral... then off course the revs rise and when the revs hit 4000-4500 it thumbs the gear in and the revs drop then this hapens again revs rise and then thumps gear and so on and so on... the oil in the gearbox is new and the old oil that used to be there was pink

Might be something as simple as the VSS playing up worth having a look at the wiring and checking that. The EEC gets all the informationabout speed etc from the VSS on the side of the box . Also check the wiring loom from the box.
