slight coolant leak

I am experiencing a slight coolant leak but I can't locate it. It seems to form a small puddle about 6" in diameter on the floor approx 1' in from the front passenger wheel. The bloke at the garage reckons its a head gasket leaking at the back and running down. Does this sound right? If hes right how much is it roughly to replace/fix? Can it be fixed with an additive? Or have I had it? Thanks. Thanks.

Wouldn't use an additive - it could block the heater matrix! I had similar problem which was the inlet manifold see here I had no puddles as the water was being evaporated by the heat of the engine but I would have to top up about once a month! You may be able to see a crystalised deposit from where it is leaking which is from the anti-freeze - thats how I found mine! Good luck! Dave

Is it definately coolant (i.e. are you having to top it up regularly)? Don't forget the air-con will produce water when it's running and this will drain - on the passenger side. If it is coolant then it could just be a leaking core plug or a hose that's split at a screw clip like mine had. Certainly wouldn't expect the head gasket unless there were other symptoms... Darren
