Tyre Pressure

The dreaded MoT is just around the corner and as part of my pre-MoT service my local garage recommended that I fit four new tyres.

Some £260 later (Avon ZZ3 225/50 R16) I thought that I'd better check the tyre pressure. The manual states 29 psi for the front and 26 psi for the rear (under normal loading).

I set the correct pressure (when the tyre was cold) using a digital pressure gauge but the tyres look a little under inflated.

Am I being paranoid?

Cheers

Chris.

Mine too are the correct pressure and look a bit flat, I put it down to the sheer weight of the car. Shes a bit of a big girl after all  Grin

hi there

i run 31 front, 29 rear. means you can run deeper into corners and the backend won't be quite as twitchy coming out! Wink

Ditto,    at even 32 psi  my fronts still look like they could do with a bit more   puff, which    maybe   explains    why   the     power steering   is  pathetic   and  hardly    " Light " .

Underinflation also reduces the mpg. I keep mine at ~33 front and ~34 back

34 at the back? Surely you would want a higher psi at the front because of the extra weight of the engine  Huh I keep mine at 34psi at the front and 30psi at the back which seems to be a nice combo between bump absorbing and handling.

The front is less inflated for better direction. The back has bigger pressure because sometimes i go on longer outside town trips and load the boot up with lots of stuff.

Agree  IME manufacturer's tend to err on the soft side - presumably to give a more comfortable ride.  My old Rover 414 specified about 28psi all round - only problem was that it wore the shoulders at that pressure.  Eventually found 35psi to be about right for even wear.

Does`nt the load index of the tyres deside this.?
Normal cheap tyres have about 89...
My summer tyres have a higher loadindex and they look right, but winter tyres have 89, and they look "flatt"(er)...  Roll Eyes

Just weeks before summertyres comes one again.!  Grin
(yeye, you GB guys dont have this problem...  Wink )
