Headlamp washer jets

The headlamp washer jets spray water in abundance when required but the stalk that carries them does not move up out of the bumper and they simply spray water straight into the bumper housing.

From looking at other Scorpio's there is a small rectangular shaped plastic moulding (looks like a decorative hat) that sits on top of the washer stalks. However, on mine is it missing (on both sides).

I have gently pulled up both of the stalks and they appear to connected to some sort of spring system which drags them back down again as soon as I let go.

What should I try first?

Many thanks

Chris

chris...
the "caps" you are looking for are practically impossible to obtain, they are not sold seperately, and to try to get them off of another scorpio, they always usually break...
sounds like the washers are working fine, but might be sticking where they might not have been used too much, keep lifting them up  and let them retract normally a few times whilst someone works them from inside the car (ignition on,headlights on) and this will hopefully free them up a little

Thanks Craig,

Sounds like a WD40 job.

I mite even try and fabricate some little hat and try and glue them onto the stalks.

Cheers

sounds about right...
the glue that holds the original ones on is very adhesive indeed, hence practically impossible to get off.. Angry..
dont worry though, join the list of members who have them missing, your not the only one....
if you do go down the fabricating route, and they look good, you might have to go into production for the others though Wink

You will actually find that the orginal caps clip on and are not glued, however the plastic is very brittle and where the cliops go it is very thin so the constant bashing up and down breaks the clips and the cap falls off. You can manufacture replacements, but they are then better painted IMO

Mine has fallen off too in one side - looks pretty awful. Went to a ford dealer, he wanted 70 £ for one new washer jet.. That´s a little too much for me..
