Erratic speedometer

Hi My speedo intermittently dies. Usually after about 15- 20 minutes running. The sender is OK (new & tested). When it goes the gearbox loses overdrive & torque lock and all related dash functions stop...speedo. miles, trip miles, fuel computer (says 0mpg). Not pleasant at speed on the motorway as the gear change is hard and sudden! Any ideas what's wrong? the garage can't find it. Cheers Martin

It could be the engine loom, or water in the fuse boxes. Do you have a battery cover fitted ?

If its NOT the VSS then it has to be the loom but the faults you indicate, point to a faulty VSS.

HI Sorry to be uninformed, what's a VSS? The fusebox cover is in place, has been since I had to rebuild the fusebox innards after a flood! Godd jigsaw therapy! I forget to add, it's an early (N) 2.9 12V Estate Is the bit of loom readily identified? Thanks Martin

I have just noticed that you are refering to the 12v Scorpio, In that case also check the small black vacum pipe that runs from under the IACV on the air intake . Make sure its connected and has no leaks it can be knocked off quite easily and will lead to loss of gears and lock up .The older 12v use vacum to control the lock up
