Cossie oil filter - short or long?

Does the Cosworth engine use a short oil filter? I've got a Fram one from my Auto factors - PH 2854, and it looks shorter than the one on the car just now. Is this possible?

The new one is about 3 inches/7cm deep, the one on the car looks twice that.

Who's wrong? Previous owner or my auto factor?

alan..
just my opinion here but personally i would use a genuine ford filter, the reason being that the ford one has a one way valve that holds oil in the filter when turned off, this means that oil is still in the filter at the crucial start up,thus reducing friction and engine wear..

Yeah - true. I normally would go official but it was sunday and I was on a 'buy stuff for the Scorpio' mission, and the crappy parts desk only opens weekdays and Sat am. They're like the last bastion of restrictive practices! Take Monday or Friday off ferchrissakes and open Sunday! Pay the parts man double time too!

I like the factor bloke (he gives you mates discount), and Fram is a pretty decent make. I believe they have the clever valve too actually.

I'll be changing again in a few months and will do the Ford Thang then. Possibly.

Of course if this bloody flashing OD light is something terminal, the filter brand will be the least of my bloody worries. Going to buy a OBD cable and some software next week.

I agree with Craig. The proper Ford item is the way to go.

And it should only cost you a fiver

So... is it long or short?

The one I have is almost twice as wide as it is deep...

Just looked at the pics on the 24v rebuild page, and it looks like I have the right one - a wee short fat stubby thing!

Just hope I can get the old one off... had some nightmares with filters in the past. It's well out of the way too.

Thanks lads!
