Air Con - Doesnt seem to be working

Right is there a sure fire way to see if the aircon works ? It seems to blow cold but when I turn it off it still feels the same, plus in previous cars I could hear the unit chugging away. Don't seem to hear anything in the Scorp Sad

I tried hitting the a/c and recirculation buttons together, and the display went to 50 but it just sat whirring for about 10 mins I couldnt wait around so took the keys out of the ignition to stop it.

Any ideas?

Turn  on  the   a/c ,    place    the   CC   setting to     " LO "   and  check  that  the  a/c  compressor  is  turning,  within a couple of minutes  the  steel   pipe  that  leads  from  the  compressor  through  the  bulkhead  to  the   heater/blower  unit should   be   very  cold  and  wet  with condensation.

Thanks for that, its definately working although the compressors a bit whiny, but when I hit the ac switch (and its light goes out) the compressor is still whirring away and I'm still getting cold air through surely this is not normal ??

Yeah, it's  OK,   the system  has an override facility,  the   CC  operates even with the  a/c  button  in  the   "off"   mode,  this  is  to  ensure proper  screen  de-misting  on start-up  and  constant  air humidity control.

A complicated piece of kit, Roll Eyes     Remember,  the Scorpio   had  these features  as  standard  11 years ago !! Kiss

I've found that the climate control will run the air-con (even if 'switched off' on the front panel) when the distribution knob is set to windscreen vents.  Turn it to any other position and it should obey the on/off switch!
