According to the onboard system I'm averaging 23 to the gallon, which seems a wee low to me as I'm driving a 2.0L manual. Was thinking about putting some redex in will this do any harm ?

Whats the mpg the rest of you guys get ?

hi there

what's your ave mph? is it town driving or the m/way?

the 2.3 auto is about 19mpg to around 30 mpg depending on what type of driving you do.

All in all over a week of town (70 miles) and motorway (280 miles) driving I get 40 mpg from the diesel, if i do the same week in the cossie using optimax i get about 28ish mpg. Redex should give the injectors a clear through, shouldn't do any harm.

hi there

give this a go...http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/HowDoI/Howdoi.html

you don't need to to the full mod, but giving the throttle body a good clean makes a big difference (can still be cleaned on the car).

mY 2.0L manages around 27mpg. Regular use is a 16 mile journey to work on dual carriageways or other roads I can manage to use the cruise on.
A good motorway run get's it up to about 31mpg.

I find using cruise as much as possible tends to increase the mpg by 3-4 miles.

What I found dropped it was letting my other half use the Scorp instead of her Fiesta. But that's my fault for untying the rope on the kitchen sink.

Me 2.3 gets 33mpg on the motorway, 25-26 on a mix and about 21 about town. Then again I chuck a redex coctail (inj and carb) in a tank about once every month or two. Oh, and I dont have a heavy foot (well, sometimes... Roll Eyes)

My 2.9 12v not too economic - gets about 21 mpg round town with smooth start/stop - York is not good news as distance between junctions is short so spend much of time watching average mpg dropping at traffic lights!  Does round 28 mpg on 70 - 80 mph run on motorways, with cruise on as much as poss.  Best I have ever got is 32 doing 55mph but never have the patience - all that power!  I cycle about 6 miles each way to work and only use Scorp weekends/holidays so only do about 5000 a year - makes going out in it a real treat!.  Scorp would not be good news for any long distance commute.
I often think the urban mpg figures in car data are ambitious as varies from town to town and people might like to think that is what they get but not the reality.
Regards, john d york.

My 2.3 auto (taxi) usually stays around the 25mpg mark. That is mainly driving around town with a few longer distance fares thrown in.

I get similar figures from my 2.9 Cologne auto as Johndyork.  Consistency of driving style and forward thinking, so you can prepare for the changes in speed in advance, is the key. I have found the Cruise Control less of an advantage, personally, as it cannot anticipate the changes in road speed that your own eyes can.

Having said all that about econony of driving style, there is nothing like dropping out of 'Warp' after an exhilerating run on Continental motorways, but never on our Motorways!!

My diesel gets around 30mpg at the moment.  Might possibly go up to 32-33 but that's about as much as I can hope for (hardly worth bothering with a diesel).

Sorry sector-9,.....I couldn't hear you,.....someones got a bus running,.....did you say 30 mpg....
Just joking!!! Grin
Seriously though. I was considering a diesel. The reason I didnt opt for it was....1) the truck sounding engine......2) the price of diesel.... and 3) I had a Mondeo diesel a few years back & although it was economical, the service intervals were shorter & it was always in the garage for one reason or another. I finally got rid of it when the primary pump went for the 3rd time in two years.
P.S. always had injector problems as well.

It's where the two large air pipes enter the engine. (Atleast on the straight 4 engines)

Nope, not a bus, it's a ferry (according to a lad at work).  Mind you, that's not a million miles from the truth - VM are well known for their marine engines!

What is this land you speak of that is "20mpg+ in town"

Around town thats about as close to me as Gallifrey!

I manage about 17-18mpg out of my 2.3 auto around town, although for some reason I get a bit more than that when I put it in "S".

Doing a 600 mile round trip at the weekend after a full service so fingers crossed.

Love the car, I must try and get it sponsored by Shell though!

If you only get 16mpg around town then how much do you get on a run Oct? I wasn't fibbing when I said I average 25mpg & I definately get well over 20mpg around town.
Put it like this...if I put a tenner in and do local fares all night then I will get about 55 miles out of that tenner. Ten quid is just over ten litres which is 2.2 gallons which equals 25mpg. If I go on a longer run i.e. Heathrow, then I will get 70 miles on a tenner at a steady 70 mph, so that equals 31.8 mpg.  My trip computer currently reads 27.5mpg.
