Almost the most important item on these cars is the battery cover!. If water gets in to the fusebox, and it will, particularly if the lid is not properly fitted and sealed you can get all manner of problems due to dampness and water penetration. As the car seems to be ok otherwise I suggest you give the battery side fusebox a spray with WD40 or even use a hairdryer very carefully to dry it out. Also make sure the drain holes from the battery shelf to the engine bay are clear as they can get clogged up with leaves etc. Read this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm as it may help and look at the links on the left hand side re fusebox rebuild......and then pray you don't have to go down that road!!.

Is it just the instrument cluster that still has power or does everthing else which works only in pos II still function? Could be a bad ignition switch but you need to find the extent of the problem so you can investigate what's common to those systems affected... Darren P.S. Incidentally my diesel scorp had an intermittent problem where the dash warning lights would come on dimly even with key removed. Bizzarely, removing the cooling fan relay cured it. Later I discovered the loom had burnt out and shorted in front of the radiator!
