Several problems with '96 estate

Hello!

Bought a '96 estate ghia (2.0 16V doch 103kw) a few weeks back. As I'm tinkering around under the bonnet, I started to notice some strange things: some components were just tangling on their hoses, one relay sat without fastening behind passangerside headlight (I have lefthand driverseat). That brings me to my first question:
Where can I find pictures or descriptions how are things situated in motor compartment?
(I can provide pictures of items in question in a little while)

Then electricity... The motor temp gauge does not rise above blue area. I have changed thermostat but no avail. Then I saw a article here about the gauge staying halfway, but this is not the case here.

Yesterday the airbag warning light started to blink. it blinks 4 times with 1 sec intervals. Ford manual says that go to your dealer, but they ask too high price for even a simple checkup. So I think I go to a friend's place to check up on obd. May be it needs a simple clear error or something similair.

And talking about obd - I had 2 errors when I checked last time: P0443 and P13xx (cant remember exact). The first is for Evaporate canister vent controller error and the other is for some sensor detecting weak mixture (sry, eng is bad). I looked on google about evaporate canister and AFAICT it is one of those items that is just haning under injection pump.

Other than those things, I am really satisfied with this car. IMHO it looks even better than some 2003+ models Smiley

Arand. The temperature guage is controlled by a 'sender' unit which is fitted at the front of the engine by the inlet manifold. See if this page helps. You can select the correct engine. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/16vcomponents.htm.

Well.. I must first repair wirering: http://www.hot.ee/lothar/Picture03.jpg
 @

Then those are mysteries for me:
http://www.hot.ee/lothar/Picture01.jpg
http://www.hot.ee/lothar/Picture02.jpg
They just hang on their hoses/wires.

I do not have a clue what previous owner did to that wirering, it seems to be cut with knife or something..

Update:
The jack on pic03 must be connected to the valve on pic01 (with bigger circle around it). This is the cause of odb error P0443.
Two yellow/brown wires seem to connect to plate beneath ABS pump.
About motor temp senosor: it is completly broken and I get a new one tomorrow.

The air bag light fault can be found  HERE

FYI there are numerous plugs and connectors on ALL models of the scorpio which appear NOT to be used, just because it is NOT connected does NOT mean there is something wrong.

The sensor for weak mixture is probably the HEGO sensor which screws into the exhaust system or manifold.  Airbag light flashing might be caused by poor connection or damaged wiring under the front seats (seatbelt pre-tensioners are controlled by air bag module).

You can check the gauge temp sensor by monitoring it's resistance as the engine warms up.  I'm not sure whether it should increase or decrease but if it's working there should be a definite and large change.

Thank you for replies.

As I mentioned before, I managed to find a place for one of the plugs that was tangling (and hopefully I removed obd fault code P0443 in process Cheesy )

Temperature gauge:http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/engineman/dohc16v/16vECT.pdf shows only one sensor, but this is for 2.3, I have 2 sensors there: one for PCM and one for dashboard. The one with 1 wire is completly rusted and will fall off really soon. That may be the reason for constant low reading on dashboard.

Airbag signal was for Pyrotechnic seatbelt pre-tensioner failure (Either side). After today's little work it did not show up anymore.

/note to self: start learning this site.

Andres ,ALL the information on the site can be accessed from the index page which has a good search engine on it and ussually turns up what you need.
The whole FORD TIS CD is on the main site in PDF format so all you need to do is find tour way around.

It is a very big site and takes some getting through along with other member input.

Good luck and happpy driving in *******!
