cd changer

when i got my ultima, the cd changer was not in the boot, but the stereo worked fine, the remote was not responding. when i had my b/box done, the battery was obviously disconnected, and garage returned the car with TEN+ on the stereo display.

i have bought a cd changer, and had the car to a stereo place, they decoded the stereo (thanx to Sound & Vision in Edinburgh) for £18, plugged in the cd changer, the cartridge ejected, put a cd in. when i press the MAN/CD button, it just goes straight to MAN and the rest, no sign of the CD. checked the wires at the back.

the remote wires have been cut (grrr) and taped up. there is also a green/white wire hanging free.

is the lack of remote stopping the cd from being recognised? or is it something to do with this other green wire? or is my head unit just goosed?

any help would be appreciated

cheers

The green white wire is the speed sensitive sound control wire (position 1 on the small yellow connector, telephone mute is position 3 and if i remember right, the bottom 2 are for the remote stalk.

What radio head unit do you have in place? I have found that on my travelpilot sat nav unit, it has the function to play cd's through the slot in the unit or through the changer. In order to access the changer, you have to press the cd button twice to cycle it through the two options

is there a wiring diagram for the stereo on this site, i have trawled but cant find one. i need to know if snipping the remote stalk wiring at the stereo prevents the cd changer from being detected by the stereo. if so, is it easier just to buy a s/h stalk (the wiring looks complicated just to repair with a connector)
