More AC fun & games.....

System was not working up till last week when I got it re-gassed. Ran fine up until Sat (3 days), when it just stopped pumping cold air in. Right, I will try and keep this as short as possable as I am getting used to writing long posts about this car. Had a good read on the main site and taken some advise from previous posts as well.

Compresor is not turning.
1-Checked all fuses and connectors. When I checked the aux box, fuse 35 was not connected and was loose inside the box. Now seing as I was in there not so long ago after a battery saver blowout and it was not loose then, I asked my mechanic if he had been in there when he was sorting out the system. He said no, only re-gas, no touchy fuse box. Can fuses magic their way loose? Anyway, reconnected, no change.
2- CC-reset-  although code 57 showed (07 HBC) this has always come and gone but system does not show any bad behaviour.
3- Hard wired B9 in aux fuse box to run compressor as a test (per previous post, thanks!). This did not work either.

I thought origonaly that it could have been a leak therefore, the tank went empty and the compressor was told to stop working. But looking at the above, it looks like I got some action out of the system before something else failed. Its going back to my guy tomorrow, who told me after the re-gas to drop it back if there were any problems at all. I will report back here after but does anybody have any thoughts?
I know that I should be running a full check on de-ice switch, dual pressure switch etc, but there is just no time tonight before it goes in tomorrow. I would be greatfull if anybody has any input until then Smiley

Reversing B9 should bypass the ignition, SATC, de-ice and pressure switches (which is why it's dangerous to leave connected like that!).  However it might just be the wiring plug on the compressor has worked it's way loose - mine kept doing that every so many miles because the retaining catch on the bottom had been broken off.  I've now 'fixed' it with a blob of hot melt glue across the top!  Cool

In the meantime, do you get power at the wiring plug when you reverse B9 (check between the pins then between the pins and bodywork)?  If so then you need to check continuity of the compressor clutch using a meter across the two pins on the compressor socket.  If you don't get power with B9 reversed then put it back to it's normal position and remove the small green or blue relay just below it (R23?) and bridge the two large terminals together (long nose pliers is quick way of doing it!) and see if that gives power on the plug, but the aircon will need to be set to on, lowest temperature available and fan and engine running.

Don't forget to check the earth connection on the wiring plug!

Darren

P.S.

I've a horrible feeling I may have been wrong about B9 - if in doubt then connect all three terminals together!  I know I did that on mine and the compressor then ran permanently but I'm sure you only have to reverse the link..?

Thanks for the info Smiley I could not try it out last night though Sad Well, its gone in this morning so I'll just need to see what the crack is later, I've told him to give me a call if it starts to get scary and left a printout from the main site if he gets stuck. Which I dont think he will as he told me he has a workshop book for scorp AC and has done a few.

Well, my mechanic had fun. Turns out the system was empty again! So there is defo a leak somewhere but with UV and a sniffer, he could not find the obvious cause. So he has refilled it to see who it goes by the end of the week, if it goes empty again it'll be a full seal check....Mmmf. The good news is that none of this is costing me extra over the origonal £50 re-gas, nice Smiley

It may be leaking inside the passenger compatment - presumably your air-con person only checked for leaks in the engine bay area?

I wouldn't have thought it likely though; usually it's a stone damaged condenser.  The only other place I can think of is the inlet valve used for filling the system - you wouldn't be able to detect that leaking unless you've completely disconnected the recharge kit first!

The short A/C line that runs between the condenser and the accumulator/dehydrator in front of the radiators on my 2.3 perforatted at the lower end, as it is outside the engin bay may be missed by the leak checks.

Thanks guys! If it has to go in at the end of the week again I'll mark these areas for inspection.

Cheers!
