broken bonnet release cable

Help. when i pull the bonnet release lever nothing happens. How can i get the bonnet open?. Low water light has come on, hence discovering i can't open the bonnet. Any suggestion gratefully received. Thanks

Check this thread. Edit: Oh, and in the future, don't wait for the warning lights to come on before you take a peek underneath. Checking all fluid reservoirs + oil (also transmission fluid on the automatic) regularily is a very good idea in general.
