Headlight levelling dial

Hi all

Should a 1998 24v Ultima Estate have a headlight levelling dial?

Mine does appear to have one even though I thought the estates had self levelling rear suspension.

Cheers

Yup,

As Highlander says, yes and no.

My estate has no self leveling suspension but has a headlight adjuster. This is on a 98 facelift.

now this is getting really confussing! Huh

we've just had a long discussion about the estate shockers. i say all estates should have self levelling suspension in one form or another. you think yours doesn't. sounds daft, have you tried it? couple of (larger) people in the estate bit, drive 1/2 mile and the back should be level again.

i wonder if we'll ever get to the bottom of this one! Grin

Hi,

Dont need to load it up (although I did do this when I first got it). I just looked at the rear shocks. Take my word for it, they are not self levelling, just standard. The other curious thing is that I can't even find any sort of connection to allow self laveling shocks.
This I find strange.

But you have to consider that mine is a late facelift so was probably put together out of the remaining parts bin.

I can just picture it now. Ford production line, Friday afternoon.

"'ere Lenny, we aint got none of them self level shock things left!"

"What about some ordinary ones Mick?"

"Yeh, got loads of them"

"Sod it, put them in then. Just to keep it sweet I will put in some adjustable headlights". "Salesmen wont give a toss because they are not selling anyway". "Gets rid of that redundant stock as well and keeps the foreman happy". Grin

Heh Heh, the joys of British manufacturing.

Cheers

As far as I know, saloons never had self leveling suspension. It was only estates that had it.....Can't work out why?
Mine has headlight leveling though Grin. Usually only fitted to facelift models I think.
Not that I ever use it.

Forgive my ignorance but aren't the headlights self sdjustable ?  My scorp saloon it is hi-series, no dial, but i never needed to adjust the height of the lights, regardless of the load in the trunk  Smiley

The headlamp levelling was an option that was fitted to the high series models as standard I believe but not the low series models. The exception may have been on some estates with the Nivomat self levelling rear suspension
