Another throttle problem **fixed**

Hi there
I got a new (and another) problem with mr. scorpio. Taking a trip around the town it starded to iddle at a higher speed (around 1400 rpm). Beside this it works good, no missfire, loads of power etc. I have let te car to coold down for about 3 hours then returned home. From the first start it iddled at 1300 rpm. I have switched on the AC, engine revs didn't go down. Another annoyning thing is when cangeing gears let's say from 2 to 3, if i have 4000 rpm, when i press the cluth the revs will fall but verry slow, till i engage the 3-rd gear i have around 3000 rpm. Good after arriving home, took my toolbox and went to the car. My thought was that the throttle cable / plate was sticking, took the throttle body out and gave it a good clean. I have checked around the engine, vaccum hoses seem fine. After this i have dismanteled the iddle conole valve (i think it's the iddle valve - it's on the top of the intake mainfold, near the throttle plate) well it was full of dirt, something black and sticky, i've gave it a good clean with carb-cleaner. Also gave the MAF a good cleaning. Now it's all back togheter and the car iddles better around 1100 rpm. Now what should i check to bring it back to normal iddeling 
PS: it's a 2.3 manual

Fast idle could point to faulty coolant temp. sensor - is it heavy on fuel?

Scorpio man, the link was nice to read, i'm thinking that i gave the iddle control valve a bath in carb cleaner and that cuted lubrification, i'll add some oil to the shaft.
Darren, you gave me another ideea, i just have changed the T-stat, the old one .....well it was missing. Before the T-stat change the engine would hardly warm up, temp gauge was barely moving. I'll check te wireing.
I'll keep you informed on the progress

Just got back from the car, i have cleaned the idle control valve and put a few drops of oil on the shaft, now it moves nicely in there. Put it back, started the engine and the trouble wasn't gone still revs at about 1200 rpm. As Darren suggested about te ECT, i have pulled it's plug out and started the engine again. The revs went instantly up to 2000 rpm, and then it started to fall easy until 1200-1300. In the meantime the engine fans kick in. I also have tried to disconnect the ICV when the engine was working, the effect was the engine would shut down- so that part is working. The thing that gets on my nervs is that the problem apeard over-night.

just a thought have you tried disconnecting the battery and allowing the computers to reset.

No i didn't because i have an aftermarket alarm that gives me a lot of head ache when i change the battery. Last time i woke up half of the neighborhood. But i can try it again

Good news 
Well, i went for the second time at the car, i have cleaned again the ICV add some extra oil, also i check it's movement using a flat screw driver, and gently moving the shaft. Started the engine, the same problem, it was idleing at 1200 rpm. But i wanted to investigate more the ECT, so i have barowed an OBD2 cable and with an old laptop that i have, connected it to the car and looked at the engine temp. It was aleredy at 88 degrees and it was still iddleing at 1200. So i tried to disconnect the ICV, when i was taking the connector of the engine was start stalling, if i would let the connector disconnected the engine would eventualy shut down. So again i thought that the ICV is fine. I shut of the engine and disconnected the ECT again, after starting the engine the revs rose up to 2000 rpm, but soon it started to decreas.....at about 1200. Meanwhile the cooling fans started, the OBD was showing -40 degrees. I reved the engine a few times and the revs droped at 850 .....well joy joy....i thought...."i got it it's the ECT". Shut down the engine connected back the ECT, started it, and surprise the engine was purring like a cat at 850. I was amazed, i have tried to rev it, the revs would drop normaly, and rev nice at 850. Well then i took mr. scorpio to a killer shopping trip, in heavy traffc, lots of cars, lot's of traffic lights......it worked flawless. To compensate it i bought her a pressent the most expensive gas that i could find
So as a final thought the problem was either the ICV (whic was really full of dirt, and kind of stucked) or the ECT wires / connector. I'm glad that it sorted out "by-itself", in my madness i have also unplaged the AIT sensor. The obd had 2 error codes after "playing at the ECT and IAT" one code for each. After reconnecting sensors i have cleaned the fault codes and after a short thest run the error would not apear. So it's "kind" of ok now.
I want to thank all the members for giving me the ideeas of oiling the ICV and cheking the ECT,
PS: and the computer reset thing...that should aslo help because i had some rough driving because of the battey change (but there are a few hundred km done till now after that change)
