My local garage does a free check of aircon systems...and only charges for a topup if necessary..last time they charged me about £40 ...If you need a top up because of a leak then you may be spending nearly £40 just to loose it again.Also refrigerant is very dangerous stuff to use and i am fairly sure it is illegal to top up a system that has leaks .Some additives will reseal rubber seals (by making them expand)but i have read that it is only a short term measure as it makes the rubber brittle after a while.
