ABS light never turns on

Hi!

I have a problem with my Scorpio 2.0 -96 regarding the ABS. The ABS does not work, and the warning light is never lit (not on startup either). I've checked (with a multimeter) and cleaned the ABS sensors. I've also read the info at www.fordscorpio.co.uk and searched for similar posts here at the forum, without any luck. The warningsystem consist of a led and not a bulb, and I don't think someone has been doing anything to this led, since I've disected the instrument panel and everything seems untouched.

I've also checked all fuses and the connections to the ABS-motor.

I've tried to deliver current to the motor and it works.

Tips, hints, ideas?

are you sure it's not working? when you slam on the stoppers does the cars lockup ? the scorpio has a very powerful brake system and would be capable of locking a wheel no problem even with all the cars weight on the front end (while braking heavily) to keep the grip up

With my cossie you have to be traveling 40mph plus and then stand on the brakes to make the abs kick in and there isnt any lock up at all

It's worth mentioning that any fault with the ABS warning light would constitute an MOT failure.

This is from the MOT regulations:

"If there is a problem signalled by the ABS light, then that is an MOT failure. The Testing station would have no discretion at all.
The ABS system will have a special sequence of warning lights when the ignition is switched on to indicate that the system is functioning correctly. That is tested for the MOT. The ABS as such is not tested. So if, as a result of your ABS failure the warning lights show an incorrect indication, then that will result in an MOT failure.

You need to get it sorted before your next MOT.   Smiley

Matt: Yes, I know that the ABS isn't working (wintertime there are a lot of icy roads here in Sweden).

Spann.: Yes.. Thats the problem  Undecided I have the swedish similarity to MOT in the next week.

Any ideas?

Either:

a)  Problem in wiring between ABS unit and dashboard (in which case ABS may work fine but indicator doesn't).

b) No power or earth connections to ABS unit (they're the four big wires - two at either end of the ABS unit multiplug).  The ABS unit 'earths' the dash LED to make it come on.

c) Faulty ABS unit.  Let's hope not!
