Can't open boot

[Sorry if this is elsewhere - but I couldn't find it] I can't open my boot! The button is depressed (as am I). When I turn the key I THINK it goes as far as it used to when it was opening but maybe the barrel has gone (but when the car is unlocked it should just need the button pressing in). The button on the fob doesn't do anything (though battery may be low). Currently I have to access the boot via the rear seats but this is hardly ideal and a puncture would be somewhat difficult. I've tried copious quantities of WD 40 in the lock and around the button and tapping the button firmly. Suggestions/advice welcome. Cheers Fish p.s. 96 Scorpio Ultima 2.3 saloon, if it makes any difference.

Put key in 'ole, turn clockwise about 45deg and push button in - should open it. If not you've likely got a mechanical problem and will need to remove the trim panel from inside the boot lid and open it that way. Once open you can investigate why it isn't releasing the latch... ...or maybe it is and the hot weather is causing the boot lid to stick to the rubber seal like mine does?! Darren

I rebuilt my boot-lid lock last weekend. A simple job. Just be careful, if you decide to take the barrel apart, make sure that it all goes back together in EXACTLY the same order, otherwise your key won't work.

Due to lack of use the rear doors and the boot often stick and need a little encouragement to open. A very easy fix is to spray Silicon Spray onto a cloth and wipe over all of the rubber seals. H.T.H. Chris

Hmm, thanks for all the responses but still no joy. I bought new batteres for the fob and tried that (even though I wasn't optimistic because the I've tried when the car is unlocked) - the button is pressed in, so I can't press it in any further. I've also tried assuming the boot is open and just 'stuck' - so I gave it a fair old heave but it didn't budge I think I'm going to have to go in via the back seats - but then what do I do? And - to make matters worse - I couldn't get the 2/3 seat unlocked when I tried, albeit briefly, this morning! Thanks in advance Fish

Sounds as though the lock motor has failed or jammed, does it ( or did it ) make any sound when you pushed the boot button ?

| There is a red lever on the back side of the seat which locks the seat in "closed" position and prevents them from being opened from inside the car. Move it to the other position, and the seat should be unlockable.

| It doesn't make any sound when I press the button on the fob at the moment and it was never something I particularly remember hearing in the past. I can't remember the last time I had the boot open - probably Christmasish - I've not needed access as I generally dump shopping etc on the back seat (now I have no choice of course) - just dreading a puncture Ta Fish

| Ah, yes - you're probably right - ta. The boot button does not move or make any sound when I push it - it's already in the 'pressed in' position and does not move with further pressing - or loud swearing for that matter. Cheers Fish
