rear bumper removal......

in the process of swapping my rear bumper, tryin to get the old one off, what a fookin nightmare! the manual says to undo the 2 bolts on the bumper assembly (2 either side) then slide the bumper assembly rearwards.....yeah right! firstly there seems to be 3 bolts on the exhaust side, one of which came out, the other 2 nuts turn but dont undo as it appears the bolts are turning too and there's no way to reach the head of the bolts to stop em turning. on the diesel tank side got both bolts out but the assembly wont budge, is there a third one hidden out of sight under the diesel tank? just about to give up with the fookin thing, anyone else had this trouble? Huh

You can unbolt the bumper mountings from the car from underneath and remove the bumper with them still attached.

Torx fittings, ive had to grind the bolt heads off before and just fit new ones

I took the heads off mine with an angle-grinder, and then drilled out the shanks, extracted them with a reverse extractor, and then re-tapped the holes, and fitted normal bolts. Gave both mountings a good soaking in WD40 the night before.
Total time about 90 minutes.
The Torx fittings are a complete waste of time, as once they have got damaged/corroded, you can forget about taking them out by normal means.
Have fun  Smiley

Tailban it sounds to me that you have a towbar fitted making things a bit harder.

Did one today mate, got one out, others no good, so used a sharp chiesel to turn them by hitting the edges using a hammer. Replace with normal bolts.
Job done & no broken off bolts either Wink

aye, have a towbar fitted. got both bolts out on the fuel tank side, but the bumper wont move on that side, is there another bolt hidden under the tank?
on the other side i unclipped the exhaust to give more room, one long bolt came out no prob, but the other 2! they're all normal bolts, the nuts turn no prob and loosen a bit, then the bolts turn with the nuts. oh well, another day when its sunny so i dont get soaked again Wink

You need to work out how the towbar is fitted.

Depends if it's a cheapy or not but should be a plate inside the boot where them bolts go into.

The bumper fixing will probably be part of your tow bar fitting as well.
