Drinking Fuel (No Not Me)  :)

Hey guys

I have a problem with my fuel gauge not always reading correct, maybe it never reads correct.

I stuck in £30 yesterday and the gauge read around three quarters full. Which I thought was about right as the gauge said I was in the red. Well 80 miles later, mainly on an A road sitting at around 60-70 mph. And two school runs the gauge is reading under a quarter of a tank. Thats      half a tank for 80 miles. Seems a bit much to me. But as I said the bloke who I bought the car from told me the gauge doesnt always read right.

Surely its not that thirsty on fuel it is?

Im hoping the gauge is lieing to me.

How many miles should you get from £30 roughly?

Its a 96 2.9 12v Auto

Thansk for any replies

I average 25 with the 24v, the 12v wont be that much different I wouldnt think, depending on road type and driver type Wink

Try filling the tank and see how many miles/litres you get till the next fill.

I think your gauge is telling porkies  Wink

No way 80 miles is half a tanks worth. Unless you were absolutely hoofing it.

Think of this; the Scorpio fuel tank is 70 litres.

Current price of petrol here is 93.9p which works out at roughly £65 to fill the tank from empty.

Your £30 put about 28 litres in which is less than half a tank.

I wouldn't go too far replying on that gauge  Wink

£30 in the 24v gets me roughly 150 miles while not driving particularly carefully on normal A and B roads. The 12v won't be drastically different.

Hope this helps  Smiley

Hi guys

Thanks for all the replies. I see now that no way could £30 give me three quarters of a tank. So the guage is pretty much broken really.

Snoopy I cant do that test, for some reason the button doesnt work. Even if I press it to reset the miles done, it does nothing. I have tried holding it in for a minute and nothing. Everything else on the car works 100% apart from the fuel gauge reading correct and that reset button on the speedo.

I guess the button cant be fixed and needs a whole new panel?

Thanks again guys
