£1000 FOR MY CLUTCH?? MY "O" MY.

Well my clutch was playing up. So who better than Mr clutch I thought?
Booked it in straght away as it was empty?
I thought great I will get this sorted in no time.
Drove down got a punture. Fixed it and carried on.
He quoted £275 for a clutch well I could find that no problem I thought.
So they started taking it apart. Droped the exhaust down. Then couldnt take the clutch housing off. As aparently a bolt was tight fitting. Also in a silly place between the floor of the car and the top of the housing?as they said.
8 hours later I went to pick up the car as it was said 4 hours was ok.
The car still only had the exhaust off Shocked.
Ring me at 11am it will be ready then?
Rang up and the salesman said well it will be £1000  Angry
WHAT!!! I said I cant afford that. You need a "Dual mass flywheel" was the reply. I went down another 3 busses to get there.
There is a part missing on your clutch. A bearing which should be there. Thats not possible I said. Its a sealed unit. Bits dont just fall out.
A machanic piped up the bearing is there theres nothing missing.( CONTRADICTION) Undecided
Well said the salesman "you need a Dual mass flywheel and a Consentric slave cylinder) As there is spline wobble. When you dip the cluch the spline (shaft) still moves instead of stopping. It also wobbles up and down left to right. He showed me yes it did.
Sorry you will have to put it together I will just scrap it or something I said.
I will buy it for £100  said the salesman. I replied no. Well he said it will be £215 for our labour on the car.
I said ill give him cash could he help me out. As I still have to possibly repair this car. No he said cant make it any less. Fair enough I will colect it tomorow. Got home a phone call Mr clutch. Salesman I will give you £100 for the car and give you discount. On your outstanding labour charge. Angry
I said I wont sell you it. Well no bloody discount for you then. Shocked he said.
Im still waiting for it to be put together. It has been 1 day and a start of another just to put this together.
Went down 810 am this morning. They where all building a shed behind the garage with drills ect.
My car is still in bits and they havent bothered at all to do anything.

Newcastle upon tyne (Gateshead) Tyne and wear.
NE392**
Unfortunatley with out a quick fix It will be scrapped.
My work relies on this car and im letting all my customers down every day this goes on.
Which means no money coming in at all.
My wife has been crying over this. As my boat was in getting repaired.1 day before the clutch finaly gave in.
It was ment to be £200. This turned out to be £700. They didnt tell us until it was all done. Then I had no car to tow the boat away. They couldnt keep the boat in over night as there was no room. So it was kicked out onto the marina until I could arange a tow. A naubour helped me towing this morning. The boat is now up for sale to get us through this. So that has upset her further more. It is my little 5 year old daughters party today. All her school friends are comming.Havent even managed to get any party food yet. So off on the buss we go Embarassed
What a ...............Life Sad

It sounds as though they've  busted    something  serious  while    dismantling   it    and  are    reluctant  to  complete  the  job  because   their   incompetetnce  will  be  evident.
Demand that they  finish  the job   as  quoted  ( £ 275  wasn't  it ? )    or   threaten   them     with   a  visit   from   the  local  Trading  Standards  Officer.

Derek and wife, Firstly, we are soooo sorry to hear of your plight, if we were closer we would be more than willing to help but we are hundreds of miles away.

I know it is easy to say, but try not to fret, throw 'mis-representation' as well as trading standards at them as they quoted £275.00, sounds like they have seriously messed up and as Spannerdemon and Mr Floppy say, it will probably become evident that THEY destroyed it and are probably wasting time by not repairing it so that you get really fed up and angry and then give in to their £100.

Call the head office of Mr Clutch and explain the details, this has worked for me several times now, in my experience go as high as you can.  On a couple of occasions going through the head office has resolved the problem within 24 hours.

Next go onto the Tesco website and choose your little girls party food, I think they can deliver within a specified time.

If you would like someone to fight your corner then I am more than willing to call them! A lot of people have learnt the hard way, not to mess with Mrs Jones! Especially garages and tyre centres!

Wishing you the best of luck.

Ania and Paul

PS The head office phone number for Mr clutch is 01634 717747

Ah,    so   it's  a   franchised   business ?,  even  more reason to  stand  your ground  and   not  to  pay  anything  till you  get  satisfaction.

Go  in  with  a  mate  and   take  photos  of  your  car,     that'll   rile   them up.

Agree with everything said here. These companies do themselves NO favours when they "try it on" with the public, and it's pretty obvious that you have been dealing with a load of clowns at this outfit!

You might like to point out to them that Dual Mass Flywheels are almost always ONLY fitted to diesel engines anyway to absorb the high torques from compression ratios associated with diesel engines.

The Scorpio range (as far as I am aware),  are ALL fitted with single plate clutches.
So Mr Clutch salesman is talking verbal diahorrea.

I too would be having a serious word with Mr Clutch himself!! Somebody needs his butt kicking at this particular outlet, and I doubt that Mr Youssef would be very happy about this charade.  Tell him that you're happy for it to be done for the quoted price, and not one penny more.

hi there derekne i have just changed my clutch as i thought it was on its way out when i striped the box off i noticed that there was a bit of play on the shaft i replaced the spigot bearing (dealer part only) (8 pounds plus vat) which fits inside the SINGLE flywheel and that supports the shaft can get you a full clutch kit including hydrolic release bearing for about 140 quid but i would have to check with my brother who works at a motor factors  i live in middlesbrough if you pm me your reg number he can match the correct part to your car

i agree with mr._floppy

it sounds as if they have wrecked something (the exhaust or prop maybe?),

find out who the manager of that branch is and then go straight to him/her, armed with the info off this site and demand the car not only to be in a fully working and road legal condition but to have the correct clutch fitted and you will not pay untill it's done

The Ford Scorpio does not have a dual-mass flywheel, it is a standard clutch and flywheel arrangement as used on most cars.  The price of £275 they quoted is already a rip off - it's a rear-wheel drive car with single exhaust - you can't get any easier than that!!!
