Dead Car

I parked my car 12v V6 auto up at work this morning.

Went back to it at 5pm and it is dead.

Dash lights up OK (Battery not flat) but there is ntohing when I turn the key.

The AA man could not locate the problem - he got the starter motor to turn round by connecting it straight to the battary and he went over the fuses with a cicuit tester thingy.

So I had to get towed home  Cry

I have tried my red key to check it is not the key itself.

The only thing I can think of it the electrical storm this morning, so I have disconnected the battary for a while to see if I can re-set the ECU.  Anyone else had this problem?

Try the gear selector in Neutral instead of Park, it might be the switch not located properly or broken.

Or try these on the fault finding page

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

1.  Check the PATS led on top of dashboard.  Is it flashing a code?

2. Check Injection Cut-Off switch in boot

3. Check Fuses F16 and F17 in main fuse box

4. Check F31, F34, F37 and F42 in auxiliary fuse box

5.  Check Relay R17 and R19 in Auxiliary fuse box

6. Get OBD reading - suspect CKP or CMP sensors

7. Check main fuse box for water contamination

Thanks Highlander.

Yep, tried it in Neutral and gave the stick a good waggle in case it was not switching the switch.

Does the ignition have to be on for the PATS code?

I am a bit rubbish with electris.  How can I test the relays?

Hi, I've had several scorps that have done this,(a 2.0 a 12v and my current 24v) and in all three cases it was the n/s fuse box, (beside battery) You can strip and rebuild them, there is an article on here but I dont know how to do you a thread thingy !! Sorry.  Regards, Dave

I just re-connected the battery and thought I would try and start the car before I started reading the PATS thingy and it started!

Engine sprang to life immeadiatly.  Hurrah!

Something good has happened today at last.

I had meant to re-set the ECU since I changed the plugs and Dizzy cap and arm the other week.  The car was partially running on only 5 cylinders before.

Thats PATS code thing is good to know though, I will keep an eye on that.
