95 Cossie, Eratic Idle and lack of power

Hi There, Any Help much appreciated, My Cossie refuse to run on idle and also has some strange power drop outs when at cruising speed (mainly below 50 mph) and dies at every trafic lights. All trouble came after "strip down" of engine assy. to change that tricky water hose running between head and block and at same time changed chain tensioners. Engine started at first kick over, but would not run on idle, she was ok after a few minutes working on the throttle. Then took a drive approx. 20 miles long and at the end had this terrible blue smoke and smell of Petrol from tail pipe, at same time no power from engine while this smoke and smell occured. I know that this may sound like a "blown up" Engine; but since reason for "strip down"started with a bursted water hose, and none of these problems was existent before this jobb, I hope it all has to do with electrical gremlins? Any Help/Ideas much appreciated since I hope to take this nice Cossie on holliday next monday. B.Regards Arnfinn (from South West Norway)

Sorry for the offtopic, but. How on earth did you manage to find a Cossie in Norway? Don't think I've ever seen one for sale with all taxes payed.

hi check the wiring loom where the hose is they are very prone to the insulation cracking when disturbed. may be getting the wrong signals from the sensors

yes ,the looms a good place to start .but did you keep chains under tension with the tensioners removed? if not you may now be a tooth out on one or both chains, check over all the easy to get to things you did first,if you find nothing then you best check the cam timing & if you have unburnt fuel in the exhaust dont keep running the engine as you end up replacing the CATs??

| Hi Kjetil, Sorry for late reply. (been on holiday) the 24V is one of six sold new in Norway and I am the "unlucky" owner of an exellent car appart from the problems mentioned. Still need to find reason for erratic idle and fuel smell. Arnfinn
