Hey! I have only noticed this during the HOT weather but My aircon seems to not throw out cold air when I am idling in traffic. Once I get going it is nice and cold though. Is this normal or should I start praying for winter?

Are the fans working ? Have you had the system regassed this year? As with all things it works better when not just ticking over .

With the engine running, switch on the air-con (lowest temp setting) and open the bonnet. Observe the central part of the pulley on the compressor. The radiator fans should both be running either permanently or on/off in short bursts. If the fans do not run at all and the compressor eventually stops then it is likely an electrical fault in the fan circuit. If the fans are running and the compressor keeps turning then the system may just be low on refrigerant. Of course, it depends on how much of a difference there is between idling and normal running - if not much then there's probably nothing wrong... Darren

Mine's exactly the same, and I've just accepted it. It's super cold when I'm driving, but a bit lazy at traffic lights etc. I wouldn't worry about it, seems to be normal so long as your fans are running OK.

There is a mod mentioned to improve a/c performance on the site. I got the impression that all unmodded scorps behaved this way, and I have certainly noticed during this VERY hot weather, that the cooling is not as good as I would like. But then, my "new" scorpio still has the sticker for the lower quantity of refrigerant, so my guess is it has not been recharged for years!

| The mod looks a bit scary, I don't do electics, apart from car stereos. Has anyone used one of those DIY re-charge cans you get at HAlfords? They have to be connected to the low pressure valve?, the can says attempted connection to the high pressure valve can cause serious injury

I used one but found the supplied gauge to be woefully inaccurate. It doesn't help with the fact that the push on connector needs to be held firmly down onto the pipe otherwise it won't work and you'll lose the mix in the can! The low pressure pipe connects between the evaporator and the compressor and is larger diameter than the other pipes. Make sure both cooling fans work properley before starting and don't overfill the system otherwise the compressor will be stop/start every few seconds and you'll be kangarooing at low speeds...
