i have a problem with my expansion tank. wen i am driving the car its fine the tempreture reads half way even when i leave the car ticking over its fine. when i turn of the engine the expansion tank starts to boil and it chucks water out of the overflow pipe. i have changed the thermostat and flushed out the water system. the fans are working and the car drives fine. i drove it 150 miles down the motorway on a hot day and pulled into a garage and turned of the engine and all was well. i then drove 800 yards down the road at 30 mph then stoped and turned of the engine and the expansion tank started to boil. its been like this now for 5 weeks but seems to be getting worse now the weather is hot. i havent had the car long and dont know much about them i have wanted one for years and now i have one and its broken please can anyone help. i have the 20 litre 16 valve ultima on an m reg auto.

Sounds like you could have an airlock in the cooling system, Take the expansion cap off, run the engine with the heaters on hot until the engine is at normal operating temp, watch the water in the tank it may rise and over flow a few times, don't worry this is the air coming out, when the level starts to drop refill with water.
If the problem persists then you either still have air the system or you may have a head or head gasket problem.

Hi Arizona. I had this when I changed the coolant and thermostat on my Scorpio. Took a while for the airlocks to come out and looks a bit violent at times as the air gurgles out. All airlocks seem to go after a while and all ok now. Scorpio's seem to be a nightmare for airlocks.
