Hello all - great forum and just the place for help I have a Scorpio Ultima 2ltr manual 94 I think. Had a problem on the way to London - bad noise from the rear end which was apparently a wheel bearing which had failed - got towed in and was told both sides needed doing plus the discs pads and two new tyres - had it all done for 500 and found the car seems to wander dangerously all over the place - had it checjed by two garages - one spent an hour for free trying to find the problem as he said the steering was terrible - it really wanders almost from lane to lane - the mechanic and I went all over and everything seemed in the right place although I did think when watching the car braking that the front wheel seemed to "shudder" backwards on stoppng - we couldnt find any movement though when we checked the suspension with a pry bar on the ramp. He suggested we start bolting bits on but Ive been there before and wondered whether anyone had any ideas or experienc of this so at least I can minimise the cost a bit Thaks Ross

Sounds like the rear wishbone bushes on the front of the car if the front wheel judders under braking, try moving the wheel front to back, or try kicking the tyre towards the back of the car to see if it moves. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/wishbone.htm

Please, PLEASE don't drive it till it's fixed, I don't want to meet you on a corner Yep, jack up the rear end ( big trolley under the diff ) and shoogle ( that's Scottish for oscillate back and forth and up and down ) each tyre while looking for movement in the trailing arms. It does serious . Good Luck.

Thanks for that - dont worry its far too dangerous to drive - I'll have alook at that in the morning. Whilst remebering "A friend in need........... . is a bloody nuisance" I also have a problem with the gearstick jumping out of second gear - I understand that this is the MT75 gearbox (guessing really but I think its the case) surely this box would have been used on other fords - the point is - which ones ? Thanks Lads

The MT75 was used on the later (i.e. DOHC) 2.0 Granadas and Sierras - however apart from the later Granadas these were cable operated clutches... Darren
