Please guys n gals (if any) Need help recently bought a loverly scorpio Ultima ,2.0 16V M"94" only 72000 on clock blah blah blah now ihave noticed a slight issue with the gearbox Firstly it holds onto 1st gear then once you take your foot of the throttle and its rev drop it engages into second and the rest work fine. Secondly once past tyhe first slight issue it seems to be indecisive about OD/topgearas in it will change continously between two top gears and prefer to hold high revs rather than the lower revs.wen it changes it feels like it is slipping into the gears thirdly Od light flashes and the gear box id fine finnally thanks for being here lol glad i found you all looking forward to the next Kent/Essex meet TY in advance for any help and im hoping its the MAf sensor and not a new box

Try the MAF cleaning routine first . It can work wonders for malfunctioning boxes.

Gremlin: Have you tried driving it with the little button that isolates the top gear pressed? I find mine manages perfectly well without a top gear, and as top is not supposed to be engaged below 50, and you get 60 just a little over 3000 rpm, it doesn't seem to need top in "normal" motoring. So, although I have a spare gearbox in the shed I am just driving around rather than paying £300 to get the other gearbox fitted. Someone suggested the problem might be the gearbox speed sensor. Can anyone shed light? John

Oh ... the other symptom is that if the O/D is NOT disengaged with the button, the gearbox seems to "free wheel" a bit in all the gears. The revs drop on the overrun and there is little or no engine braking effect. But if you keep the button pressed and lock ou the O/D top, all the remaining gears lock up nicely. And of course, I never go anywhere without my AA card and mobile phone!!!
