Very slow pulling away from cold

Hi, I`ve just bought a 24V (again) must be a glutton for punishment. Car came with good history although previous owner I suspect was a muppett. Car runs great once driven after a few hundred yards. The first few hundred seem to be done on tick over, can`t seem to get it to rev. Not good news for up coming winter! Any one else suffered with this and cured it? Was thinking about changing plugs but service history says Platinum ones inserted some 20K miles ago.

just a bit of a long shot, but if the oil is like sludge it will take a while to thin out and lubricate etc

Standard plugs are platinum tipped, if not they will run out in a few hundred miles 
As for slow reving at cold:
Engine oil, spark plugs, IACT, ECT....maybe the MAF....

Firstly, I have to say I like the platinum plugs. I replace mine last month for the second time. The set I put in the when I got the car has done between 40,000 and 50,000 miles. When I took them out they looked new, even the gap was right. I would have put them back, but having bought another set I might as well get 50,000 out of them. I bought from FMD and got a very good discount without asking, don't know why, are they not used elsewhere and they want rid?
Regarding the main problem, what changes in the first hundred yards is the question.
An air leak which seals up with expansion, or something like oil or water which has leaked into the cylinders overnight and takes a while to boil off.
As they say "have you run and OBD test"
Anyway, well done for sticking with the Scorpio and lots of luck.

Well, the software is actually free on the Internet but you do need to purchase a connecting lead. Alternatively, post your rough location and if you're lucky someone locally will lend you a lead, or better still run diagnostics for you. This happens a lot on this site. You may be amazed how helpful and knowledgeable some members are.
Regarding laptop a cheap one will do, look at http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/obdfaq.htm for more details. I actually used a desktop PC for a long time but obviously diagnostics are limited to those taken while the car is standing still (unless you have a very long mains lead).

Also, most decent mechanics have OBD and will do for £50-£60 but a FMD will sting you for £90-£100.

Had my new plugs, engine flush, new filters, new oil today......will see what happens tomorrow. Thanks for all the advise re OBD, I have a laptop in `the cupboard` at work might as well see what its all about eh? I`ll be at Billing on Sunday

Cleaned the MAF as recommended by one of `our readers` and pulling away from cold now seems fine. Coincidence can any one tell me? New oil, filters, and engine flush made no difference until I cleaned the MAF.

The MAF is a major feature in the control of these engines. If the 'wrong' info is given to the computer all manner of problems can result as the system tries to compensate. This seems to be particularly important on Auto's where people have thought the gearbox was faulty when all that was needed was to get the MAF cleaned.
