Well, one thing which I don't think can lie, you should be getting 2650rpm@70mph in overdrive, overdrive (at least on the 2.3) should kick in at 50mph if your foot isn't too deep in the pile hth, Bruce.

its not uncommon for ford speedos to show up to 10% higher than actual speed, so 66mph could well be 60 mph (ish), with all the cameras and speed traps on the roads, i'd be inclined to leave it as it is. Russ

Mine is close to 5km/h off when approaching 100km/h, so I guess yours is normal I do actually believe this is a feature, not a bug, atleast on Norwegian ones, as this has been common on just about every car I know of, and it is usually better to be driving slightly slow then to get a speeding ticket

I noticed about a 5km/h difference between my Navman display and the car display at 100km/h also. I have also noticed that if I set the car at 60mph on cruise, and swap the trip computer to average speed, then reset it, my trip computer gives an average speed of 58mph!

speedo inaccuracy on cars and bikes is common, and its normally a 'rising rate' i.e. 1mph out at 30 might be 4 or 5 at 70....

It would appear that the Ford Speedo'd on ALL the scorpios are on average 10% out ( read Fast ) all the way up the scale from 10mph to legal limit . It is a well know and published problem and AFAIK NOT fixable..... unless you are preapred yo get a calibrated speedo and they cost hundreds

so if you get caught speeding i dont think that if you went to court they would accept that your satnav was saying you were doing 70mph when your speedo says 80mph, personally i think there are too many satnav's now and they are giving in accurate information.

If you check the speedo against the trip computer by reseting the av speed whilst on cruise control you will find that the speed on the speedo is actually reading 10% faster that the trip computer.....

To give you an idea of how fast you are going. If you need something more accurate, you can get a good GPS speedo

So all those times I think I'm being a little devil by doing 34 in a 30 past the cameras, I'm really only doing 30? I feel really deflated now

This is why the police dont normally charge you for speeding until you are doing 10% + 2mph over the limit, because by then your speedo is showing you are speeding for definite including the "error" if they clock you at 70 your speedos probably showing nearly 80 and they know it.. ever been stopped and the speed they quote you as doing is less than you thought??

If you have no fancy gadget then use your rev counter to work out your speed based on your transmission ratio's & tyres. It will be closer than your speedo Do a search to find a calculator.
