no hot air!

Got another problem with my Scorpio Ultima now. Driving back home today (over 30 miles) this evening I was surprised to find that, although my heater blower is working fine, the air is cold, no hot air at all, even on the highest air temp setting. Thought i might have left the air con switched on, but it wasn't. Anyone experienced this themselves? My car's got the Air con etc panel, with the climate control, buttons for selecting the air temp etc. Any help greatly appreciated, as Mr Winter is drawing near and i don't fancy cold drives to work an back

Could be the heater matrix is blocked or restricted. Are the pipes going to & from the matrix the same (hot) temp?

try a c/c reset, may not work 1st time, but try it 3/4 times, and go through the whole procedure. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm hth Russ

Cold air only blowing is usually due to no water flowing through the heater matrix. Could be an airlock, or could just be blocked with rust & slime

As luck would have it, hot air started blowing the morning after, and it appears to be working ok at the moment. Its almost as if the climate control switch itself didnt do its job of selecting the temperature. My Scorpio also seems to have a very vague engine coolant temp gauge, which will regularly register a stone cold engine after several miles, then normal, then drop back to cold.

Temp guage going up & down, hmmm, still sounds like an airlock to me. Sounds like it's moving around the engine & could soon be back in the matrix If the heater goes cold again, then this will confirm. Have you tried running the engine with the (rad) cap off until it's hot to see if any air comes out?

| Have this problem every now and then so would be very interested to see what you find! Hopefully it is something as simple as an air lock. CC works fine on mine so doesn't appear to be affecting that. Needle jumps around from hot to cold and back then settles down (Only happens very occasionally) Guy.

Thank you for all yuor replies to my problem, much appreciated. I will follow all of your guidelines over the next week or two (as time permits) to see if i can sort it out, and willl let you know the outcome. I'll start with the easiest, which looks like running the car with the cap off up to running temp to see if air gets cleared out of the system.

Could be as easy as a new thermostat. Worth trying anyway.
