Ive got a 2.3 ultima...and had the gearbox ovehauled becuase revs were increasing between 2nd and 3rd by 200 rpm and I was worried about clutch..reverse was ok

after having work done it still rises by about 100 rpm between shifts....is that ok ? thought should instantly drop revs when about to change...I have access to another ultima ,a year younger /facelift and that behaves as i expect...is it a different gearbox ? why the difference in behaviour...is there  something wrong with box??  workshop said clutches were perfect when they opened it ..so maybe some other reason for slip??

Mine does that too I think.  I got a second hand auto gearbox from eBay (before I knew about this site) and it is not as smooth as the old one (which had lost reverse - brake band or something)  anyway as the new second hand one changes gear into second it races and I have become adept at taking my foot off the accelerator just as it is about to change and this stops the racing somewhat.  It has been like this for over a year so don't know if that reassures you.

If I understand correctly then mine had this problem when it was low on fluid. When bought, the 'box sump gasket leaked so every so often the fluid would get low. If it wasn't topped up quite quick enough then the revs would jump between changes. New gasket, new oil+filter and the box uses no oil and changes nicely *touch wood*.

Hope this helps  Smiley

tks for comments,,,but this has just been totally reworked/refubished no leaks etc..oil full etc

I need to know whether its ok that the revs lift by 100 or so when it shifts 2nd to 3rd..is that ok ?? will it wear clutches ?
