Hi guys, my 2.3 has developed an odd problem. Last night got back from work late and locked the scorp with the lekky fob, then the alarm goes off! So I re-set the thing and locked the system with the key. No problem there. Got to work this morning and locked the car with the lekky doo-dah and stripe me the alarm goes off again. The memsahib always the master of stating the bleeding obvious, sayes Oh, It did that last night. No kidding luv. So I tiddled around with the fob for a few mins and eventualy got the double locking set electronicly. Any ideas as to what is going on here chaps?....The memsahib I can deal with, its this infuryatingly wonderful car. Cant live with it , cant live without it. A bit like the mem I suppose.

Next time it happens, put the ignition on and check if any of the door/boot open lamps are on, this may give you a clue.

The offside rear door on mine started this trick last year, pumped the microswitch in the lock full of switch cleaner, no more probs since.

Check Bonnett, boot and all doors as has been said. Any one of them not making a proper contact is sufficient. Bonnet favourite. The last one I recall was the boot not properly secured. The bonnet alarm switch is just to the left of the central fixing pin.

I'm with Simmo Bruce and Highlander on this one, either a door or bonnet switch and I think from previous experiences bonnet is favourite.

Presumably WD40 wont do the job...and do you have to pull off the rubber doobry to get to the switch?
As a card carrying numpty I dont want to pull something that shouldnt be pulled. ROFL

WD 40 won't hurt. Do the bonnet switch and the boot lock first. See what happens. A spray on the door locks may help as it could be that the mechanism is a bit 'sluggish' particularly if an individual door is not used regularly.

You guys were right! It was the bonnet switch. The rubber has completely perished and the switch looks like it has been taking in water and got a bit nacked.
I have given the switch a liberal dosing of WD cos the rubber just came away in me mitts and I dont want any more moisture in it than necessary. I have phoned up my local Fords dealers and I can pick up a new switch in the morning, £19.20. Once again your goodly knowledge has been spot on. Thanks chaps. Wink

Glad you've cured it . Next time shout if you need a part as often one of the lads will have something like that kicking about or a visit to the scrappy will secure one in moments!. Mike.

Ahhh, single malt... Glenmorangie Wink

I only pumped mine with switch cleaner because I have loads of it and I guessed there was a microswitch lurking in the lock somewhere, any spray oil should work as well (and be cheaper Smiley).
