Wiper Linkage

Used the wipers for the first time in a while this evening and the linkage has dropped off at the first point (the long bit from the motor) Is this a common problem and easy enough to repair or does it mean a complete linkage ??

I went Macyver and used a hairstring om the linkage.! Still holds, replased it 2times in 2years...
