Picked up my 24v scorpio yesterday. It drives realy well, but the idle is very lumpy. If the air con is switched on then the revs die right down almost to point of stalling for a few seconds before recovering slightly.

I have cleaned the MAF and it has improved slightly. While Im waiting for my code reader to arrive, has anyone got any ideas?

Im trying to identify the EGR pipe so i can disconnect that, and see if it makes a difference?

hi there

sounds like you a/c compressor might be siezed. Undecided this would drag the revs way down.

egr vac pipe is at the back of the engine (bulkhead). feel for it ONLY when the engine is cold.Wink

I think the compressor is ok, the air con is still working and cold. I think that the tickover is so lumpy that any extra sudden load is enough to make it throw a wobbler!

Cheers for the page on the EGR, i didnt think of removing the whole thing.

Check for air leaks first.
Then disconect the EGR.

Then wait for your scanner to turn up Wink

Let me know how you get on as it sounds very similar to my car. But my compressor actualy seems to smooth the eratic idle!!
