Cossie MOT Failure Oil Burn & Cats

Hi all,
Although my '95 Cossie flew it's previous MOT (Aug 05) just before I bought it from a friend who'd had had it from just after its first birthday.
It has now failed on front flexible break hoses and high engine speed emission levels.
Keeping the story as short as I can. The hoses are done. The MOT centre said the emissions where so high it must be engine management and I should contact 'this guy', who'll definately sort it for you.
The 'man with the van' (and a OBD lead) said it's definately the cats, the upstream lambda sensors, and it that's not enough, it's burning oil.
So if I did swap the exhaust bits to get it through the MOT this year, don't expect it to pass in 2007!
Now a couple of months ago I had to have a new steering rack, and based on the way this car drives and the general condition of the rest of the car, I can't accept that it's BER (beyond economic repair)!
So then, I'll get to the point.
I have sufficient engineering experience with various other engines and I've decided to do it myself; including performing a head overhaul to sort out the oil burn.
First of all, am I correct in assuming that a head overhaul, re-seating the valves and fitting new seals will cure the oil burn?
Secondly, where can I get a 'Head Set' from?
Third, can someone offer me a good (& cheap) supplier of Cats and HEGO sensors?
Help please.

There are a number of possibilities for oil burning.
Worn rings, worn valve guides, worn valve valve stem seals, blocked breathers to name but a few.
How much and when does it smoke?
Speek to Mike at boost performance about parts availability and their cost..

But I think finding a good doner engine would be far more economical.

Firstly what kind of mileage we talking here?
If it's below 150,000 miles I doubt very much if a 24V has any major bore wear.
A oil ring might have gone a possible.
To change the valve stem seals you don't need to take the heads off.
You will need the proper Ford tool & a compressor thou 
First do a compression test but before you look at the oil burning issue get the cars emissions right & a M.O.T.

She's only done 81,000 and has no lack of performance or power.
Generally it doesn't smoke much at all, only when I floor it really.
I was just advised that the oil burn had taken the cats out.
I've no intention of swapping the whole engine I don't have the time or space to perform that operation and if it did come to that I'd be better off getting shut of it and would probably get something a little more economical.

Dave, would you tell me more about this tool to save me lifting the heads please?

I have a cossie too. I would strongly recommend getting a scan from someone on here, the guys on this forum have all been through these issues, and know a lot more about the car than "a man in a van". You can even post the scan results here for everyone to take a look at.
I did and it revealed my Fuel Pressure Rail Valve was broken. Symptoms were poor hot starting, cats not doing their job, dodgy lamba sensor readings on idle, rough idle, but car ran beautifully on the motorway. Got it replaced and the cats are now responding again, as are the sensors !!
Point is, there are many little sensors and valves on this cossie, TPS, IACV, EGR, IAT (many of which are still a mystery to me) that can seriously affect how the engine runs. Its often something simple that looks major, and a bit of knowledge saves a lot of time and £££

Do you get any smoke on startup?
if you leave it idelig for 10-20 minute any smoke?
Take out dipstick, any fumes out of there?
