Ongoing idle problem

An update of the symptoms: car starts fine and idles fine, however when warm and after a drive if you put the car in neutral or park the revs will surge to 1000 rpm. It doesn't do it every time but the revs wont drop to 750, if you drive off and put it n or p again it's a lottery as to what it will idle at 750 or 1000. Turn off the car and back on and it idles at 1000 if thats what it was idling at before you turned it off. Have new IACV fitted. As thought before its nothing to do with kickdown as I didn't kick it down at all yesterday and it still did it. What components decide what the idle rate will be? This is the only fault on my car and it's starting to annoy me.
Guy.

Well maybe, but would it stick in exactly the same position to give 1000rpm? Where do you lubricate to ease it?

possibly if has a kink or a frayed wire or a bit of dirt jammed in it.
Might be worth disconnecting it to see if you can feel any resistance plus you could run lubricant down the cable when its off.

My 24v's idle about 660-680 with the aircon off

Other than that it's going to be a hard one to find  Undecided

Do you think my idle is quite high at 750 then? I'm going to get into the throttle body and clean that up and try lubing the throttle cable as soon as the weather gets better.
