Flatulence of the battery?

Everything has been just fine so far but when I came to get the car out this morning, remote did not work, opened up with key and hopped in and attempted to start the car..... Absolutely nothing nary a click or burp. No interior lights no radio absolutely no sign of life whatsoever. Anyhoo looks like a chance for super RAC man to come out so I can close the old year with a homestart and what I suspect and hope will be just a new battery. Not sure how long the current one has been on it, tempted to nick the battery of the 16valve but that would need charging. Watch this space Happy New Year

The overnight sudden decline of the Scorpio's battery is a sympton that is being reported more and more One day fine, the next day, useless. Should one carry, along with spare bulbs and fuses, a spare fully charged battery ?

OK update - when started by nice RAC man and then switched off, noted a .2 amp drain and then spotted instruments and ignition lights showing even with key out. Touched brake pedal lights went out will report back later

Narrowed component down as a green cruise control switch on the brake pedal which when removed electrics behave. Swapped the one from the 16valve problem still there so a problem in the cruise control wiring circuit?? Anyhow at this point new battery not needed am going for a long drive to see how things go. Wish me luck. Geoff

Before anybody says a thing Fuseboxes are looking dry at this point but I know that probably does not mean that there are not penguins swimming about there to get their revenge.

For the moment disconnected the green switch and problem solved no spontaneuos flickering instruments or warning lights when keys removed.... but no Cruise Control either, not likely to put up with that for long so I suspect I will shortly be upping the profits of a local auto electrician. Happy New Year

Happy new year Geoff, Regarding the green cruise control switch... The plunger can get stuck in. Have you tried pulling it fully out as far as it will go (should pull out by two notches). Just a thought

Cheers Jonny Happy New Year to you and yours!, Was not aware of notches and will have a look at that, must admit to being curious about how disconnection of this device solves the ghostly electrical problems in terms of ignition/ oil pressure lights switching themselves on without the key being present and apparently those circuits draining the battery. Car appears to be behaing perfectly but alas without the cruise control
