The easiest way is to access the motor and check the supply to it. Details of how to access are HERE.  The plastic cover does push backwards BUT the clips that hold it are VERY tight.

Hi Guys,

I've a similar problem. It's been raing a lot here today and when that happens it sometimes drips from the sun-roof switch.

As usual I wiped it with a rag and inadvertantly opened (tipped) the roof (something I haven't done for a year or so). When I realised what I'd done I tried to close it but to no avail.

Like cscars 1 my fuse is ok and indeed I can hear the relay click when I press the front button. But no click from the back one and NO CLOSE.

I've taped a bin bag over the roof as it's still raining cats and dogs but would love any help here. I'm even having trouble getting the light switches out to start with!!

Thanks

Mike

If you get the motor out you should be able to close the roof by hand for now

Thanks Highlander,

Any idea how to close it by hand?

btw I checked that my global closing worked on the windows (which it does) but not on the sun-roof so I guess that rules out the switch.

Also, I got the cover off at last and it was not a seperate relay clicking but something inside the motor, if that helps at all.

What I'd really like to do is get it to close firmly, I don't ever want to open it again (seriously!) so any help achieving this would be appreciated.

Thanks

hi mike

just remove the motor (the clicking will be the cog stripping  Sad) and the glass panel should just push down.
might be an idle to use some wd40 first as per my instructions above.

hth

btw, the drip is from the ariel seal.

Thanks Guys,

Presumably reinstalling the motor will hold the roof shut.

Guess I'll disconnect the switch to avoid a repitition!!

Thanks again

Mike, you should also look at the links that have been put up and make sure the drain holes are clear as that is likely to cause water ingress if they are blocked or as Andrew says, the aerial seal. Usual method is to push a long piece of curtain wire or electrical cable down the tube to clear any debris.

Ok, well I tried taking out the motor and pushing it shut but it wouldn't budge, even after lts of wd40 and jiggling.

Then I looked at this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/sunroofmtr.htm link on the site which in addition this Russian looking site http://www.carsoft.ru/avtorepair/sierra_el.html which for some reason has all our wiring diagrams in English helped to make sense of it all.

I followed Andy Brown's excellent "sunroofmtr" page and found that my sunroof motor was stopping at extra stations along the route (eg "Half-way to tilt halt") but having made the unscheduled stop, was not then in the least bit interested in the return journey (must have been somewhere nice in the sun-roof world - but not for me - hehe).

Now knowing how it WOULD work, I ran it into the middle of "slid all the way back" to give me plenty of room to manoeuvre, re-installed the motor and could then move it by trial and error until it was properly close - aaaaah!

I then dis-connected the power to the motor (sorry old thing) and put it all back together.

This is such a brilliant site, I wouldn't have fixed it without you guys. Thank you!!

Glad you're sorted Mike but did you clear the drain holes and check the aerial mounting?.
