 Radio  LCD  Display

The display has finally  conked out, not a  even a faint glimmer of an outline .  Some posters  have indicated that it's a condensation problem  which makes sense given the weather of late.

I have noticed however, that before, when a cassette was removed after playing  it was warm, now it   isn't.

I wonder,  is there a  bulb  inside the unit  ( apart from the normal illumination bulbs )  that effectively keeps the interior  free from damp and condensation?

 Just a thought.

I've ordered  the special  Ford tool   for  radio removal  so I can investigate further.

Been thinking about this again myself...my radio display has gone lately and so has a couple of segments on the CC...again. Drives me blooming mad Roll Eyes

Been having some problems with carbon ribbon cables lately, seems that the conductive surface can seperate and lose contact yet still look ok. The tricky bit would be getting another one and getting it connected to the display without damaging the conductive traces on the glass...mark my words, it's either the cable or the display itself Smiley

You'll need a set of miniature torx drivers, often sold as mobile phone tools, the panels are a tight fit too...cut hands and cracked PCBs if you're not careful Wink

Regards, Bruce.

Hi Bruce, strange things these radio,s.My display has never faded or vanished before,I guess I have just been lucky.Other members have put it down to the cold weather.I parked up last night the display was there, clear as a bell, nice mild weather last night compared with a lot of very cold nights which never affected it,started up this morning and it has gone.Very strange HuhRoy.

Well even mine's been dodgy today  Angry

Started with a faint, slow moving display which came back with nice black digits after about 10 minutes driving. Only problem then was that it was all flickering.

After being parked up for about half an hour, the display decided to give me all the relevent information in what looked like a mixture of chinese and arabic!  Huh
One press of the 'CD' button sorted that out, and its all working properly again now.  Makes me wonder how long for though  Undecided

I've recently had exactly the same problem which I have never had before.  Display panel lights up but no text.

I took the anti-theft panel out (selector buttons 2-5) and put it on the fire mantel overnight.  It's OK now....well it was this morning.... as I was driving along switching the radio on and off.  Every time the text came up  Cool

Dunno how long this 'cure' will last tho  Undecided Undecided

Mine did it the other day........

It was fine when I started the car, but the text dissappeared after about half an hour.
I tried pressing every button etc...but nothing.
Then all of a sudden it came back on about an hour later, & has been fine ever since  Huh

Let's hope you get it sorted, because I've just returned from the breakers here in Torquay, looking for a small part for my Daughters car.
Among the new arrivals was a Scorpio  P reg 2.3 complete with a 7000RDS radio.

I asked the guy how much he wanted for the radio, thinking it would do me for a spare or parts.

£110.00 for that mate, they're very expensive radios those!!

I took  the front  LCD panel  off,  warmed it by the  fire for a few hours then put  it back   together  again  it was fine for a couple of days but  now it's gone  blank again. Angry

Oh well,   at least they were fitted to recent Mondeos,  so they shouldn't be too difficult  to  find.
 find  a  decent  newish  one

Mine is doing just the same since Christmas - I take the button key out every night and keep it tucked away in a warm pocket but it still plays up!

I took the key apart to see what can be affected by damp - not a lot so it appears! Don't fancy taking the radio apart so it will have to stay like it until summer! Undecided
