hi all .. a freind of mine who has a R reg 2.3 has told me of a problem he has which we cannot understand... his 2 L.C.D displays that give all the info on fuel economy, miles left in tank, miles per gallon, etc will only show in metric ?? NOT in miles and gallons..only in litres and kilomrters.. i asked him if he had tried the MODE and SET buttons to change the displays to imperial, from metric.... he said yes.. it wouldnt change.. i then said your mode button had it ?? he said NO.. every other funtion on it works OK he seems to think he has some sort of import from overseas, hence the metric displays but i thought all scorps had the same display, hence the MODE and SET buttons ?? any ideas or onfo ?? many thanks kev

All trip computers are the same, my 2.3 European left hand drive built, comes default with km/h. To switch to imperial units you need to press simultaneously the Set and Reset buttons. Theres also a catch, sometimes the buttons tend to lose conductivity and just need pressing a few times before they really go. Cheers

Isnt it just the S button to change it? If the S button contacts stopped working that would cause this

Mine used to be crap untill I took the dash pannel out to fix the stereo. Worked much better ever since.. I gues a strip and clean of the switch can't be too hard. You can test the operation of the switch via the cluster by holding down the odometer restet and scrollign through till you find the switch test. Detail on main site. TT

Perfect would be a nice steady number diplayed if you hold a button in, a varying reading would indicate a poor button which might respond to a bit of cleaning.

There was a tutorial of how to change the burnt leds inside the trip computer switch. The pictures were verry useful on seeing the internal contacts for cleaning, but the search page doesn't like me today.....i can't find it.

Hi, this happened to me once (& before I joined this site) . First all the readings were in metric and I don't think I was able to put them back to imperial. I bought a new module (~£20) but that didn't fix it. Then after about a month I started to get the flicking needles phenomenon. Another month later the battery died - fortunately I was in Halfords at the time picking up a new battery. Paul

Thanks Simmo, your a star !!! Now as you all can see in the pictures, the "inside" of the switch has a pair of springs that pushes onto the small PCB, where there are 3 metal contacts. When the spring pushes on the metal, it deforms a bit and makes a clicking noise and makes contact. A few drops of contact cleaner will make them like new (tried on both my scorps).
