temperature indicator jumping down

Hi, my temperature indicator is jumping down once the motor is in normal temperature - I know it sounds funny. It never goes up though. I have checked water for overpressure / low several times and it doesn't seem to be the issue. Anyone have an idea? Thanks, Alex

This is a known 'fault' with the Scorpios. See: HERE Just live with it, or do the repair. Alternatively you could try the instrument re-set. HERE Hope this helps you.

Hi, it's been a while since but my problem is still there. I had a look at it for 8 weeks now and can't believe this unusual behaviour. Let's start at the beginning, 27/01 - everything was fine till my fiancee had an accident - yeahh, I know, this car is too heavy for girls . After I found the radiator was leaking, the needle began jumping to zero and back to where it was - after bringing it in Ford charged me 440 EUR to replace it when picking it up at least it was running but here we go, 4 weeks later the jumping started again - I didn't care till last week - now it even jumps to just under the red and back again, if that is the real temperature then I presume the motor is getting far too hot. I tried the instrument re-set and got the following: cold - 255 warming up - suddenly needle jumps to middle of normal band, 125 1/2 miles later - needle a bit above middle, 110 full throttle up a hill (min. 1 mile) - 98-102 constantly after the run @home left in idle - shows 70 as soon as tachometer goes into idle, jumps up to 110, back to 50 and stays at 60-68 if I hit the gas a little same jumps again, stays at 60/68 afterwards That was my little "test" - hope someone can help identify the issue as I have no clue ohh - I found that I have air in the basin every 1-2 weeks, when cold I open it and close it again --> fine. The low water LED comes on usually before I just open it to let the air out (I dont need to put water in tho..) PLEASE HELP!!!

hi there still points to the temp sensor being faulty, imo. seen it a few times now. easy enough to change. just remember to leave a small gap when screwing the sensor back into the manifold.

Hey, YAPP I'm a newbie!! Although the germans designed the car (as far as I know) they do not all know where the temp sensor is...so..how do I replace it? I presume taking the old one out and putting a new one in Alex

Thanks very much scorpio_man! will work on this next week and see how it goes. is it correct that I don't need to take the earlier steps as I don't take the cyl heads off? Alex
