hello folks more help needed .I was driving home today from work ,put my foot down a little to overtake ,and was shocked to see a plume of white smoke behind me .I cut the speed and drove to my FMD about two minutes away .On lifting the bonnet and giving it a few minutes for the steam to clear the fitter found the bottom heater pipe had blown off.Not just blown off the end of the pipe had broken up as if just gone brittle .To cut a long story short FMD want about £300 plus vat to supply and fit a new heater rad .Pulling out all the dash and instruments is beyond me ,what options do I have ? thanks for all your help in advance.. david

David, is it the hose which has fallen to peices or the pipe which goes through the bulkhead to the matrix? Aren't the matrix pipes aluminium? Hoses do degrade over time, if it's just the rubber hose which has blown, surely it doesn't need a new matrix? Regards, Bruce .

£300 isn't to bad a price, especially from FMD. The rad alone is £110. So they reckon about £200 labour....what do FMD charge per hour nowadays, £50 - £70 ph ?....so that's three to four hours labour If you decide to take FMD up on their offer, then make sure that you get an assurance from them that the labour price won't suddenly shoot up. I've a funny feeling that they may be under-estimating the time it will take to complete the job

If it's the part that goes through the bulkhead thats broken then it's likely the matrix will have to be replaced But ditto with Jonny, check the labour costs won't go up, sounds too good to me Regards, Bruce.

An FMD in Cumbria charged me £480 (inc vat) for that job so if one is offering £300 then great, but get it in writing. Cheers Penguin

I would certainly get it in writing, sounds too cheap to me I would have thought that labour alone would be around that sort of money and then the price of the rad on top.Roy.
