24V stalled after 7km and won't start again

Hi! I was about to buy a 24V from Germany. I have an agent there, who did all the paperwork and testdriving for the car. Then started driving it up north and the b****r stalled in an intersection. The seller came to the spot with a new battery, cause they were running out of power, but the car refuses to start. It makes a promise, burbs and dies. They have tried re-routing the petrol pump wiring in order to get it running, but it won't seem to help. It's a puzzle, first it ran well (as well as a 24V can, hurdling idle etc ) and then just stops and won't start again. I'm outta ideas, what to try next... We got our money back, but would like to get the car, because it's got the facelift parts + perfect leather interior and it is cheap, but first it should work about a 1500km Any help much appreciated, the agent is staying overnight near the car, but give up tomorrow.

Thanks Simmo, I did review that and passed on the advice to Germany. Just wondering the fact that the car worked nicely when testruns were done. Then it just suddenly decides to stall on the traffic lights and never return to life again. Millions of possibilities of course. Water being the most probable one I think. Well. I may just leave it and try looking for another car - which is sad, this was the cheapest facelift I've ever seen. It's one of the first Scorpio 95's (actually -94) and the facelift has been installed afterwards. If anyone has come across the same prob, let me know. My -96 24V stalls all the time, but it starts again. No problems with the older -93 model with the BOA engine, I think they made it worse and more fragile (BOB) for just a few bhp more. Sad, it's such a nice car otherwise. Edit: It did have a lousy battery before it was started, it did not startbefore the battery was changed, but then it fired ok. Unfortunately they put another lousy battery into it, and it did not have much juice in it either, but the car started, ran well until died when it should have started it's way to Finland. They then installed a new battery into it, but no more live fire anymore...

was it raining when you test drove? water in the fuse boxes or water through to the ecu/pats? got a battery cover? check the PATS for warning flashes.....

Unfortunately I'm in finland, the car is in Germany and there's a trusted man who's doing the job for me, but I hear the skies were clear - nice weather. No battery cover, for PATS warning flashes I'm not sure - they did not notice that. Well worth checking! I did a search on this site and have now suggested water in ECU, -in fusebox, checking the fuses and checking for the PATS signals. Thanks for help, I think this is all we can do for now.

yep see my post from a week or so ago, i got water through to the ECU, wouldnt start. easy to check, just feel up under the glove box for moisture. PATS should flash rapidly too.... a dry ecu fixed mine instantly..... of course if it is damp, do you want to buy a car that has no battery cover fitted? this could be whats lurking underneath the battery.... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l230/tintin74/DSC00114.jpg

It's for breaking anyway - it should not have to run more than 1500km I'm not asking much FORD = Full Of Rusty Details? That's called irony. I have two Fords, love them both.

Maybe check the wiring to the crank sensor plug, and make sure the plug itself hasn't popped off. Come to think of it, check all wiring plugs to things like the coil pack (DIS), o/s fuse box etc

Sorted, thanks! Inertia switch was failing - they claim. We left the car and did not buy it. Instead of that I bought a -93 Scorpio Cosworth a beauty in a mint condition, leather interior and almost all the things you could put into a car back -93. Lacking only the electronically adjustable rear seats. It'll be a nice addition to my growing spareparts collection
