shaking and lack of power at full throttle

My Scorpio (2.3 16V 1997) doesn't like it when I push the throttle. It's running perfect, but when I push the pedal more than half, the engine starts shaking en there is almost no acceleration. This happens when rpm is between 2000 and 3000. At higher rpm acceleration is perfect. I checked the Throttle Position Sensor and cleaned the MAF. Cleaning the MAF makes it less worse, but didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions?? Auke (the Netherlands)

Ditto with solarpanel about the coil packs. Could also be a fuel pressure problem, blocked fuel filter or bad fuel pressure regulator making the engine stumble when asked for more power - just been having similar problems on my 'counterfeit 4.0 Scorpio' Also, EGR valve? I'm not sure about this one but I know it can upset things... Regards, Bruce.

Thanks for the suggestions; but the strange thing is it only happens at low RPM; top speed is perfect, and above 3500 RPM it really accelerate fast!

Hello. I have also had this problem with my 2.3 DOHC. Now with the coil packs. They look fine under normal inspection. However where the plug (wire) goes onto each coilpack. The plug holder underneith the coilpack cracks. And starts to "ark". electric jumps from one wire to another. Creating lack of power under low revs. It is almost impossible to see with out getting them out. And having a look under good light. Its an easy job though they just screw out with star type rachet. Or allan key type. Failing that well you could be looking at a dreaded wireing loom harness. Which I have had to replace also. When inspecting the black coil packs. (which push onto your spark plugs) have a dam GOOD look at all the wireing. Any spliting or cracks can be desasterous. And replaceing may very soon be needed. Hope this helps. Regards Derek
