24v Rumbling PAS

Hi all, if i quickly turn the steering more than half a turn on my '95 cossie whilst either stationary or driving at very low speed it makes a rumbling kind of noise which you can feel through the steering wheel. Looking on the fault finder page it suggests replacing a high pressure steering pipe (wherever that may be), is this the solution or could it be something else? Matt

Hi there, the cure it's simple, find a grass patch or use some old papers under the front wheels, rev the engine to about 1200 - 1500 rpm and make 2-3 complete turns of the steering wheel. This rumbling appears in general with the presence of air in the system. It is also a side effect of lifting the car, and letting the front wheels in air.

To be sincere i never took the cap of, it usually sorted out by some "tight cornering around the block" making my neighbors think i'm drunk and driving

Octavian is probably right....if the front wheels have been off the ground, then it tends to rumble/vibrate for a while. It usually settles down after a few miles Unless the PS pump is on the way out, or the belt is slipping
