Front wheel bearings

My nearside front wheel bearing is suspect, for the first time, after 118000 miles, and I will be changing it on Monday. I have access to a 10 tonne press and a well equipped workshop for the job. I note that the hub nuts are handed, can be re-used up to 5 times, and should be torqued to 420 NM but my quality wrench only goes up to 350 NM. Will this be a problem? If anyone has done this job I would be grateful for any tips. Thanks guys. Neil W.

I think you are quoting the rear hub nuts, which are both right hand threads; according to the Ford technical data sheet the front ones are 420 NM. In any case I do not trust garages to get torques correct - ever checked your wheel nuts after a garage has air gun tightened them ?

Update. A new hub nut comes with the bearing and it is of the Nyloc design. However, it turned out the front hub bearings were perfect and the overheating problem was caused by a relatively new Ford brake disk that has a high spot on it So, next job is to replace front disks and pads - again . New bearing put into stock in my garage. Cheers, Neil W.

Knowing my luck, the day after I get my money back the bearing will fail . If I keep it, the bearing will be fine for years to come Neil W.
