Locked out
« on: May 10th, 2007, 9:03am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

I've managed to get myself locked out of my 2.9 Estate.
I only got the car 10 days ago and knew that the door locks were a bit iffy. The key would only unlock the passenger door. I got  new remote fob yesterday, programmed it and it worked OK, locking and unlocking the car. Got up this morning and nothing is working now. No reaction from the remote and the key won't turn in any of the locks. Sad
Any ideas as to how I can get in to the car?

Iain.

While you are waiting try spraying the locks with WD40 and get the VIN number details ready as you will need to provide them. You could also take the key and try and get a new one cut. If the key is badly worn a new one might just activate the locks. THIS tells you about 'reading 'the key.

Great!. That would indicate that the door locks are OK. Just a word on the ignition switch which presumably uses the same key as you only had one with the car. IF that starts to become 'difficult' make sure you deal with it straightaway as you need to be able to turn the key to Position 1 in order to remove and replace the barrel. Failure to do so turns a simple job into a load of grief. The details, should you need them, are HERE

I had to do the ignition lock as soon as I got the car. So hopefully that should be OK.
I can't understand why the remote fob wouldn't work this morning. I bought the remote from a guy on ebay and programmed it OK yesterday evening. Locked and unlocked the car a dozen times with no problems, then this morning nada, ziltch. Reprogrammed it - nothing. New battery in - nothing.
Any ideas?

Tried all that jonnycab. This remote is in pristene condition. I'm told that it is less than 12 months old and it certainly looks new.

Then maybe it isn't the remote that is at fault.

Possibly a problem with the central timer or remote locking module ?  Undecided

Your not the only one to do this, I managed to lock myself out tonight with the keys in the ignition and the engine running!!  Undecided no red key but manged to get in but for obvious reasons i am not going to say how.

I seem to have a problem with the locking mechanism on the passenger side door it hums and the lever doesn't move like the other doors do and the locking cycles continually for a few minutes or until the doors are closed  Huh

Any ideas ??

The continual cycling of the lock is classic if there is a problem with the continuity of the system. It can often happen if a door is only used occasionaly and thus the mechanism is 'stiff' or not quite making a contact. The first step is to apply a liberal quantity of WD40 to the suspect lock mechanism and see if that improves things. You may have to remove the door trim in order to get full access if 'probing' doesn't work.  May I suggest that you PM Snoopy, Baz or Scorpio Man (Moderators) with the details of your method of 'entry' as it may well help others. Such information is not released without very careful vetting.
