Hi again, My Cossie is showing signs of rust around the wheel arches and I want to try and repair the problem myself as I have some knowledge of paint spraying but not removing rust? Any help would be gratefully accepted! Regards Gerryw

hi dude what you need to do is pick off all the bubbling paint and rust so the pannel is solid around where the rust is then paint with cure rust or rust stop leave for 24 hours and any rust will be eaten away leaving a good surface to fill and sand and paint the chemacall will cost nomore than £5 and will do a very large area hope this helps darren

With Darren Remove any paint over the bad area and give it a liberal soaking of Kurust or similar. Then good quality zinc based primer followed by colourcoat and lacquer. If you can do the repaint, it's more than half the battle Sure, the 'proper' way would be to have new arches put on by a bodyshop but I did some rust spots on mine and it was fine when I sold it. Regards, Bruce.

Nearly cossiejamie, but not quite, Iv'e fixed my sunroof although I still have the rusted glass panel in there, but I have got it working OK. Trouble is, every time I open it I get showered with rust... lol Going to start work on the wheel arches tomorrow and I think I'll let the leak, leak for a while longer seeing as its only costing me about £0.35 per month in water charges ha ha . Cheers Gerryw p.s. I think I'll get one of those water diviners and take a walk around my cossie to see if I can find the leak...

Gerry, I have not done this myself but I would suggest (if its not too late) that you DRY sand the filler. I have mates who have wet sanded bits and pieces of accident damage only to find the dreaded rust bubbles apearing within twelve months or so.

I used the zinc primer and filler on my old granada and it didn't come through at all for the 2 years after I had it, plenty of sanding to get the old rust out and plenty of primer as well as the paint and laquer seemed to keep the rust at bay. Done the same on my scorpio now and its been 3 months and nothing through yet.
